A number of Enlightenment philosophers and classic social scientists thought that as a result of social and economic progress, ethnicity would over time lose its allure, disappear, and become a phenomenon of the past. If these classic writers were right, the present book that focuses on social identities of young people in ex-Yugoslavia in the early twenty-first century would have studied other identities, and ethnicity would have been of no concern to young people.
