This volume grew out of a workshop sponsored and co-funded jointly by the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, Imperial College London and Michigan State University. Peter Kenmore and Clive Stannard were the key individuals at FAO. Jeff Waage provided administrative and funding support from Imperial College London, while Andrew Dorward helped enormously with organization and local arrangements at the Wye Campus. Dan Clay, Director of International Agricultural Programs at Michigan State, provided funds for travel by MSU faculty.
