Abstract Every institution has a glorious beginning and SCSVMV is no exception. SCSVMV today is a Deemed to be University par excellence rooted in the Indian tradition, knowledge, and belief, but scientific in its thinking, as ordained by Adi Shankaracharya Ji Maharaj who is the fountainhead of knowledge and who has authored many voluminous works that explain from the working of a soul to the existence of the cosmos, in its entirety. We, at SCSVMV, are fortunate to be able to capture the spirit and essence of our institution in this paper.

Jayendra Saraswathi Swami Ji Maharaj, the 69th Peetadhipathi and Pujya Shri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swami Ji Maharaj, the 70th Peetadhipathi took upon themselves the responsibility of fulfilling the vision of Pujya Shri Paramacharya to bring the pristine glory to Kanchipuram as the seat of learning, known in days of yore as ‘‘Ghatikasthanam’’.

As a step towards realizing the vision of establishingthe seat of higher learning, ‘Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi

approval was granted by the Ministry of Education & Culture towards the end of 1984.

Nyaya Sastra Mahavidyalaya’ offering Sanskrit courses in the rare branches of studies, at the level of graduation & postgraduation during the late seventies, duly affiliated to the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan of New Delhi was established in 19xx.In its natural path of progress, the institution applied to the then Ministry of Education & Culture, Government of India in the year 1983, to bring themselves under the scope of‘Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya / Sodh Sansthan Scheme’. On the basis of the recommendations made by the screening committee which visited the institution in February 1983,

Progressing in that direction, the Peetam had also simultaneously formed an exclusive charitable Trust in the year 1987 under the name & style of ‘Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Charitable Trust’and got it duly registered, with the primary objective of fulfilling the cherished vision of Paramacharya. Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya (SCSVMV) was established in commemoration of the centenary year celebrations of His Holiness, Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Maha Swamigal in the year 1993.
