Submacular haemorrhage following intravitreal administration in an elderly patient: case report A 72-year-old woman presented with acute visual loss in her right eye 24 hours after receiving her last ranibizumab injection. She had a history of age-related macular degeneration and occult choroidal neovascularisation, and had received 24 monthly intravitreal injections of ranibizumab in her right eye over the past 2 years [dose not stated]. On presentation, the woman’s right visual acuity had deteriorated from 20/40 to hand movements, and a large submacular haemorrhage was evident on fundoscopy. Indocyanine green angiography identified the haemorrhage at the choroidal level [outcome not stated]. Author comment: The short period between the injection and the hemorrhage as well as the extent of the bleeding comprise the main reasons for suspicion of an etiologic correlation between the injection and the observed incidence."
