This book originates in a research programme on global norms of gender equality and development organisations. During the past twenty years, numerous international agreements have tried to shape international development cooperation in terms of both its goals and its means. At the same time, new public and private actors from all parts of the world have begun to engage in development cooperation, which is no longer a matter of rich countries in the North providing aid to poor countries in the South.
