Mania in an elderly patient: case report A 79-year-old Taiwanese man developed mania during treatment with rivastigmine for Alzheimer-type dementia. Three days after he started rivastigmine 1.5mg twice daily [route not stated], he developed a manic episode. When his symptoms had persisted for 3 days, rivastigmine was withdrawn. Two days later, his symptoms resolved. One week later, he received donepezil. After a month of donepezil use, no additional manic symptoms were reported. Author comment: "We report the case of an elderly patient with no prior history of psychiatric or other organic disorders who experienced first episode mania following treatment with rivastigmine."
