Scalable Battery Case for Variant-intensive Floorpans
The energy storage device battery plays an important role in the design of electric drives: Technical performance and economy of the vehicle for the manufacturer rely on its integration. A scalable, variant-rich and economic battery case for large numbers of production units should offer an entry point in future collaborations in engineering, with which Edag Group and its development partners can reduce expenditure for development.

PROVEN PLATFORM AS A STARTING POINT
There can be no battery integration without reference to a floorpan. A gen eric electric platform called ScaleBase, developed by Edag in previous years, has already proven to be a scalable floorpan for the development of chas sis for Battery-electric Vehicles (BEVs): It therefore serves as a reference for the joint project initiated by Edag with Baomarc, Cloos and Siemens. The high maturity level of the platform, combined with the battery case, provides a sound

starting point that can be adapted indi vidually according to the wishes of indi vidual customers (such as battery mod ule type, capacity, battery management and battery charging system, wheelbase, or width). The prototype of a battery module of Edag BFFT Electronics was considered. A concept was planned that reduces expenditure on development as well as causing minimal investment in tools, and running and manufacturing costs. Thanks to the knowledge gained from ScaleBat, the time expenditure is re duced by four to five months by compar ison with a complete redevelopment of a battery box. well as start-ups as a potential target group, in addition to the traditional German OEM. THREE SOLUTIONS FOR CURRENT VEHICLE CONCEPTS
The flat tray battery concept is designed for wheelbases of 2800 to 3000 mm, for example for current vehicle types like VW Touran or Tesla Model X. Among the three possible concepts, the medium variant with 27 modules that provides a gross capacity of 86.8 kWh with a nomi nal voltage of 400 V for a range of about 450 km may be in particular demand, FIGURE 1. COST-EFFECTIVE FRAME STRUCTURE
Due to the advised high number of units of up to 300,000 units per year, the Ital ian project partner Baomarc Automotive Solutions from Civasso advises that the frame structure be made with coldrolled steel profiles rather than alumi num extrusion profiles. The weight of the frame structure actually increased from 52.14 to 58.87 kg, yet the un
