Society AGM The Society Annual General Meeting was held at Apothecaries’ Hall on 19 November 2002, in conjunction with the Salter Lecture. The current officers and members of the executive and scientific committee were all re-elected, as were two new members, Dr Richard Tiner (Medical Director, ABPI, London), and Dr Bruce Charlesworth (Global Project Physician, AstraZeneca, Cheshire). The text of the Chairman’s address is reproduced below. Chairman’s Report Annual General Meeting, Tuesday 19th November 2002
Fellow members of the Society of Pharmaceutical Medicine; this is my first year in this role, and it is my privilege and pleasure to present the Chairman’s Report to this Annual General Meeting of the Society. It is an honour to chair this society ever mindful and penumbrated by the exceptionally talented previous chairpersons, Dr John Pincott (immediate past chairman) and Dr Frank Wells, (now Vice Chairman). Fortunately for the Society and myself, the talents and guidance of both of these gentlemen has always been kindly available to me. I am delighted to report to you that the Society has continued to make good progress both scientifically and financially over the past year. This is due to the excellent teamwork shown by every single member of the Executive Committee, ably supported by other members of the Society when needed. I am ever mindful that all committee members have quite senior responsibilities in the pharmaceutical industry that must be met. We

Considerable gratitude is due to Donna Ellender who has served as our Scientific Meetings Secretary and therefore undertakes much of the hard work associated with the organization of the meetings. Donna regularly and unstintingly attends committee meetings with extended cross channel journeying from Paris. Donna has been key to this Society. Our favorable accounts this year have been derived from a successful scientific meeting program and a 20% increase in membership. Next year we have plans to increase this still further. Martin Perry again merits a special word of thanks. In addition to keeping us on the constitutional rails in his capacity as Honorary Treasurer he has overseen our financial affairs so as to deliver a definite improvement in our financial situation between 2001 and 2002. Please note that the audited accounts presented at this meeting are for the previous year (2000 – ending December 2001). In my view, the Internationa
