As compact as it is, the title of the book Hidden Hunger by Hans Konrad Biesalski nevertheless packs in multiple meanings, as the hunger which it refers to is ‘hidden’ in at least three respects. First, hunger is hidden in the sense that it is not perceived by many people. Put bluntly, it is ignored. Second, hunger is hidden due to the fact that it is actively concealed, for instance for political reasons, by those who know very well where it exists and whom it affects.
