Abstract With rapid improvement in all domains of computer, discrete mathematics becomes a main professional required course in college of computer science and technology. But this course is full of theoretical knowledge and becomes little interest of students. In this paper, we discuss negative of the classic teaching model in discrete mathematics in high education firstly. Then, we study how to use task driven into teaching method by combined teaching practice in this course for years. Finally, we discuss and study the improvement of teaching model by use task driven. 119.1 Background Discrete mathematics course is a mathematics course which studies structure and correlation of discrete quantity. Nowadays, it is not only an important part of modern mathematics, but also used widely in many subjects, especially in computer science and technology. Meanwhile, discrete mathematics is a prerequisite course of many professional courses of computer subject. Artificial Intelligence (AI), Theoretical Computer Science (TCS), e.g. Students improved their ability of abstract thinking and logical reasoning [1].

But in modern society, more students show more interests in practice courses. In this case, a new teaching method is analysed to improve students’ practical capacity. It is called task driven. The task driven is a teaching method based on teaching theory of constructivism. It uses a corporate task active centre in teaching process. Under help of teacher and application of resource aggressively, students can study knowledge and synergetic interaction themselves autonomously because they are driven by strong motivation in solution finding of problem. In that way, students study a kind of practical activity when they finish the given task. So a positive cycle is formation from achievement feeling of finished task to thirst of knowledge and exploration [2]. In fact, similar to discrete mathematics, many courses teaching are underlining their theory and ignoring practices. It makes students disgust courses [3]. Contrarily, practical process cannot be easy to lead into teaching because complexity and discreteness of courses. So in this paper, we put forward a teaching model based on task driven. We use the model in teaching and find teaching result is bette
