Preface

Writing a book about the apocalypse theory is not easy, because the meanings and imaginings of apocalypse suffer different variations on time and culture. However, we are living at the borders of the turn of the millennium, just after the 2000s. Each 1000 years, societies experience anxieties and fears that are often articulated in a set of narratives known to anthropologists as “millenarianism”. The imminent end of the world is given not only by human greed but also by excesses in the administration of the world. These cycles are accompanied by a sentiment of hope, a renovation which is aimed at enhancing social cohesion (Skoll & Korstanje, 2014; Wojcik, 1997). It is important not to lose the sight of the fact that in these discourses, technology plays a crucial role accelerating the moral decline that corrupted mankind. Although technology is originally designed to make the world a safer place, under some conditions, it accelerates its end (Greenberg, Rabkin, & Olander, 1983). Doubtless, the technologica
