Abstract A new method was developed for the determination of 12 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in meat and sea food by gas chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole mass spectrometry using selected reaction monitoring technique. The method was based on ultrasonic extraction and florisil column cleaning up. Recoveries of the 12 PCBs ranged from 70.4% to 100.6% and the relative standard deviations were from 0.5% to 12.6%. The limits of detection ranged from 0.006 to 0.009 μg/kg and the limits of quantitation ranged from 0.02 to 0.03 μg/kg. Eight meat and Guo-Sheng Yang is one of corresponding authors. L.-G. Introduction Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are a kind of persistent organic pollutants (Turrio-Baldassarri et al. 2009) because of their high toxicity, durability, transference, and biological characteristics (Manodori et al. 2006). They are easy to accumulate in organism through the biological concentration process. Fish, mammals, and human in the top of the food chain can absorb these PCBs which can be stored in the adipose tissues, causing brain, skin, and internal organ diseases. They can influence the nervous, reproductive, and immune system, causing a threat to human health. PCBs are mainly present in the water, soil, and sediment medium (Lores et al. 2002; Turrio-Baldassarri et al. 2005). For their harm to human, the Environmental Protection Agency has made limits for the contents of PCBs. The new limits are 10 μg/m3 for the air, 100 μg/m3 for the water, 2 μg/g in th
