Tensions, paradoxes and uncertainty are hallmarks of the operating environments in which professionals undertake their practices. Handy (1994) suggests that such tensions and paradoxes are “endemic” given the complex, uncertain, and turbulent world of constant change in all aspects of contemporary organisations. The education sector has not been immune from such dynamics. Policy makers, decision makers, parents, school leaders, teachers and broad stakeholder and interest groups undertake professional practices, interactions and decision making that is ever growing in terms of complexity of the law. Principals and teachers who are at the core of the delivery of school provision are faced with ever increasing demands on their roles and associated responsibilities as a result (Trimble et al. 2012).
