■ The UK’s Commission on Human Medicines has provided new guidance on the use of IV acetylcysteine for paracetamol [acetaminophen] overdose. The changes are intended to simplify treatment decisions, by removing the need assess risk factors for hepatotoxicity. The Commission also recommended a range of measures to help reduce the risk of administration errors, including provision of weightbased dosage tables for adults and children to remove the need to calculate doses.
