Masahiko Aoki passed away on July 15, 2015, at the age of 77, leaving all who knew him with a grave feeling of loss. Masa was an excellent scholar and an unforgettable person with the rare combination of a cool head and a warm heart. His brilliant and flamboyant life is marked by numerous academic distinctions and recognitions including the Nikkei Prize for Economic Book of the Year (1971) for The Economic Theory of Organization and Planning,2 the election as a Fellow of the Econometric Society (1982), the Japan Academy Prize (1990) for The Cooperative Game Theory of the Firm3 and Information, Incentives, and Bargaining in the Japanese Economy,4 the Presidency of the Japanese Economic Association (1995–1996) and of the International Economic Association (2008– 2011).
