The essays in this collection originated from a symposium held at Oxford’s New College in the autumn of 2017. Dr Paul Gibbs, sponsor and organiser of the symposium, made a call for papers to a preselected panel of colleagues and concordant- minded academics on the subject of “values in higher education” positing the question “what do we value in higher education and what values should those in higher education have about their work?”, the overarching theme of the symposium being “the nature of grace”. In addition to the mixture of globally renowned academic authors on the subject matter, there were also a few nonacademic individuals whose professional and personal praxis reflected an interest and understanding of the subject matter “in thought and action”. I was one of those fortunate professionals, who also happened to be a doctoral candidate in the Professional Doctorate (DProf) programme at Middlesex University.
