Haematuria in an infant: case report A 4-month-old boy developed haematuria while receiving warfarin concomitantly with Pimpinella anisum and Radix ferula [routes, dosages, therapeutic indications, durations of treatment to reaction onset and outcome not stated]. The boy, who had nephrotic syndrome and was receiving warfarin, presented to an emergency department with haematuria. He had a high INR. His haematuria recurred despite withdrawal of warfarin. It was then revealed that he was also receiving anise (Pimpinella anisum) and plant Viagra [Radix ferula; herbal medicines not clearly specified]. Author comment: "[I]t became evident that the child was receiving anise (Pimpinella anisum), and plant Viagra (Radix ferula), both of which increase the action of warfarin." Akl KF, et al.
