What binds all these chapters together is that they all bear directly on, and have been inspired by his scholarship and the research programme he initiated. We would like to thank all the contributors, who each not only offered their extensive expertise and important research but also joined hands with us in undertaking all other tasks a volume of this kind requires including reviewing chapters, proofreading and index preparation. The idea for this book was conceived in a conference organised by Prakash Shah in London in April 2014 where he, Martin Fárek, Dunkin Jalki and Marianne Keppens presented early drafts of the papers that are part of this volume. Several of these papers were discussed during workshops in Bengaluru, Ghent and Pardubice, and the final versions presented here owe a great deal to the careful listeners of those workshops and conf
