I write this book preface during the COVID-19 crisis, while social distancing in my home. To me, this crisis has revealed a number of invaluable lessons to the world. The two lessons most important to the context of this book are: (1) science and technology are vital to our collective future, and (2) problems of the future can’t be solved in isolation, we must work together.
