Zolpidem Somnambulism and nocturnal eating: case report A 51-year-old woman experienced somnambulism and nocturnal eating, with associated amnesia, while receiving zolpidem [therapeutic indication not stated]. The woman, who had no prior history of somnambulism or nocturnal eating, was initiated on zolpidem 10mg daily at bedtime. She presented after 2 months of zolpidem treatment, reporting two episodes of somnambulism with subsequent amnesia [time to reaction onset not stated]. These episodes consisted of walking downstairs to the kitchen while asleep and eating food, in normal amounts. Although she had no memory of these events, she was able to recall all events following the ingestion of zolpidem and before falling asleep. The woman discontinued zolpidem, as she believed there was an association between her experiences and the drug. Thereafter she experienced no further episodes. Author comment: "This case strongly suggests that [the patient] had an unusual reaction to zolpidem (i.e., atypical behaviour without any recollection of events; amnesia for usual activities might be more suggestive of medicationinduced anterograde amnesia)."
