Listeriosis: case report A 58-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis had been receiving adalimumab for 5 months when she was admitted with a 3-day history of severe diarrhoea and vomiting; her adalimumab dosage at that time was 40mg every 2 weeks. Her temperature was 38°C and she had hypovolaemia, hypotension and tachycardia. Listeria monocytogenes was identified in a blood culture on hospital day 3. She started a 2-week course of high-dose ampicillin and gentamicin. Her gastrointestinal and systemic symptoms rapidly resolved, and she was discharged soon after completing her antibacterial course. She remained well during follow-up with adalimumab removed from her treatment regimen. Murphy G, et al. Systemic listeriosis with adalimumab therapy.
