Renal impairment and diabetes leading to fatal coma: case report A 47-year-old man commenced treatment with amphotericin B 0.8–1 mg/day [route not stated] for cerebral aspergillosis. Staphylococcus epidermidis was later isolated in CSF samples and he was started on antibacterials, as well as methylprednisolone sodium succinate [Solumedrol] 40 mg/day [route not stated] because of cerebral oedema. Amphotericin B was switched to voriconazole after 23 days of treatment due to renal function impairment [outcome not stated]. Fifty days after being diagnosed with aspergillosis, he died following osmolar coma due to corticosteroid-induced diabetes [duration of treatment to reaction onset not stated]. Seffar M, et al.
