Hypokalaemia, thrombocytopenia and allergic reactions in a child: case report An 8-year-old boy presented with an 11-month history of fever, anorexia, night sweats, vomiting and weight loss; he was diagnosed with visceral leishmaniasis. He received amphotericin B [dosage and route not stated] but developed severe hypokalaemia, thrombocytopenia and allergic reactions [time to reaction onset not stated]. Amphotericin B was discontinued and replaced with miltefosine. Within 1 week, his fever had resolved, his appetite improved and he started to gain weight.
