The motivation and inspiration to publish this book were triggered in October 2011 when data protection charted Malaysia and certain member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) media headlines and marketplace talks. It has been a “hot cake” and “buzz word” to date. Global developments on data protection have pushed the needs to ASEAN and some other Asian contours to having a legislation that complements or replaces their existing sector specific data protection legislation, self-regulated rules, guidelines and code of practices.
