Preface

Ensuring ecological security is among the global strategic tasks. This problem is related to the rapidly aggravating threats caused by increasing population growth on the Earth, diminishing life-supporting resources, technogenesis, global climate change, and escalating natural disasters. Along with military security, ecological security becomes the most important factor controlling human survival on the Earth. This book examines the state of natural environment and the causes of its degradation using the biospheric approach. The urgent global tasks are identified following the ideas first expressed by V. I. Vernadsky and aimed at the search for the new principles of human–nature interaction. In 2017, the book “Biosphere and Environmental Security” was published in Russian. The present edition is based on the English translation of the original manuscript with the minor improvement and corrections introduced. The author gratefully acknowledges Tatyana P.
