For The Von Hippie Award [Continued from Page 4] The Awards Committee announces that nominations are being accepted for the must prestigious recognition a materials scientist or engineer amid receive, the Arthur Von Hippel Award of the Materials Research Society. The Award will be presented at a general conclave of the Society in the course of the Annual Meeting in Boston. MRS Past President Harry J. Leamy, Bell Laboratories, Chairman of the Awards Committee, said, "The Von Hippel Award recognizes those qualities most prized by materials scientistsHirilliance and originality of intellect combined with vision that transcends conventional scientific disciplines. It recognizes a lifetime of achievement and dedication." The Award is named for the Emeritus Professor of the Massachusetts Institute of Tcchnolog) whose laboratory pioneered the collaborative. - intezduciplin&ry research that subscquenth has taken the identity of "materials science." Aay member of the Society can make nomination to the Committee. Names put into nomination are, in accordance with an MRS b>-]aw adopted this year, considered active for three yean. To be considered, nominations must include all of the following information, in no greater length than that indicated: • Name of nominee. • Title, affiliation, mailing address, and telephone number. • Date and place of birth. • Record of professional experience (which m:ij include a full or partial listing of publication1;, but must include past educational and professional affiliations). stantially increase the number of short courses to be offered. From a single course two years ago to an integrated offering of three last November, short courses are expected to explode in number this year, owing to the intense interest expressed in them by MRS members. Another highlight of this year's Annual Meeting will be an equipment show, which is described at length in this issue of the BULLETIN. The general convocations, the Plenary and Von Hippel sessions, will doubtless bring together the largest number of MRS members ever to attend a single conference.
