World Congress on High Tech Ceramics The World Congress on High Tech Ceramics, a special edition of the well known CIMTEC international meeting series, will be held June 23-27, 1986, in Milan, Italy. Papers are invited for presentation at the Congress. Papers should report the results of original research on basic science, process science, advances in technology, and applications in the advanced civil, industrial,

and technological context. A satellite symposium on Ceramics in Clinical Applications is also being held at the same time. Contributed papers will be selected on the basis of abstracts submitted in English to the Congress Secretariat by October 31, 1985. Contact 6th CIMTEC, P.O. Box 174, 48018Faenza, Italy; telephone (0546) 46147.

18th National SAMPE Technical Conference The Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) is now accepting papers for their 18th National Technical Conference, which will be held at the Red Lion Inn, Seattle, Washington, October 7-9, 1986. The conference theme is "Materials for Spaceā€”The Gathering Momentum" and papers describing work with applicability to space are encouraged. Aspects of microgravity processing, space environmental effects, space structure materials development and repair, and space commercialization activities are being accepted. However, papers are also solicited that describe work in the non-space areas of electronics, medicine, automation, robotics, legislation, and education. Papers are also solicited in generic tech-

MATERIALS RESEARCH SOCIETY The 1985 Fall Meeting of the Materials Research Society to be held in Boston Dec. 2-6, will offer over 1000 technical papers on the development, characterization, and processing of materials for application in emerging high technology areas. Among the topics to be covered in the 22 symposia that comprise the technical program are the application of energy beams to solids and chemical processing, rapid annealing and solidification phenomena, SOI/TFT technology, layered structures, polymers, defects in materials, catalysts, cements, carbon, coal combustion wastes, plasma synthesis, interfaces, biocompatible materials, nonlinear optical ma
