This 14th volume of Chemical Signals in Vertebrates (CSiV) is based on a mixture of conference proceedings from the CSiV XIV meeting held in Cardiff, Wales in September 2017 and additional papers, often from authors who could not attend the meeting itself. The meeting was attended by over 80 delegates, many of them still at the start of their scientific career, and the manuscripts in this book have been written by over 50 co-authors. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to our local host, Dr. Carsten Mueller, for the excellent organisation and smooth running of the conference, and all his work, time and effort in the lead up.
