Clarithromycin Leucocytoclastic vasculitis: case report Following the ingestion of six tablets of clarithromycin [dosage not clearly stated] for pneumonia, a 47-year-old woman presented with palpable purpura of both lower limbs [duration of treatment before reaction onset not clearly stated]. She had mild microhaematuria, and histopathology of a skin biopsy revealed she had a hypersensitivity vasculitis, which was the cause of the purpura. The clinical course of her hypersensitivity vasculitis was prolonged and severe, with the development of deep, ulcerative skin lesions [patient outcome not stated]. Author comment: Clarithromycin could be the cause of hypersensitivity vasculitis. Zink A, et al. Antibiotics, purpura and ulcera: a case of leucocytoclastic vasculitis after clarithromycin.
