The effects of climate change in the Metropolitan Region of Santiago are a concern of the local authorities and there is genuine interest in tackling them adequately. The topic is new, however, and has only recently been considered in Chile. Since advances in climate change predictions in the last few years had not yet reached a regional scale, recommendations on regional adaptation to the adverse effects of such changes were non-existent.
