Clindamycin Exanthematous rash: 2 case reports Two patients developed an exanthematous rash during treatment with clindamycin [dosages not stated]. A 20-year-old woman with acne developed an erythematous exanthema on her face the morning after the first application of topical clindamycin. She stopped using the drug, and her skin eruption resolved spontaneously within a few hours. Skin patch tests with clindamycin 1% were positive at 48 and 96 hours. A 71-year-old man was hospitalised with respiratory deficiency, and began receiving IV clindamycin and imipenem. Seven days later, he developed a maculopapular exanthema on his face, trunk and arms. The skin eruptions were treated with topical corticosteroids and antihistamines, and resolved within 1 week. Skin patch tests with clindamycin 1% were positive at 48 and 96 hours, and intradermal tests with clindamycin 15 mg/mL were positive at 24 and 48 hours. Hierro B, et al.
