Clobazam/ethosuximide/valproic acid No therapeutic response: case report
A 7-year-old girl exhibited no therapeutic response with clobazam, ethosuximide and valproic acid, while being treated with Landau-Kleffner Syndrome (LKS). The girl, who had LKS, started receiving treatment with antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) such as valproic acid, clobazam and ethosuximide [dosages and routes not stated]. However, she had not responded (exhibited no therapeutic response) to these treatments and no electro-clinical improvement was observed. After a month of antiepileptic therapy, she was treated with steroid therapy consisting of methylprednisolone and then hydrocortisone. After one month, hydrocortisone dose was reduced. During this time, a reduction in LKS symptoms were seen. The complete disappearance of symptoms was not observed and few symptoms persisted. Following 3 months, hydrocortisone therapy was complemented with monthly administration of immune globulin [immunoglobulin] therapy. Within 12 months, her condition improved significantly. At the time of this report, she understand verbal messages and words and able to produce short sentences. Siri L, et al. Immunotherapy in GRIN2A-negative Landau-Kleffner Syndrome.
