Corticotropin Intracranial hypertension and left hemisphere bacterial abscess: case report
A 5-month-old girl developed intracranial hypertension and left hemisphere bacterial abscess while receiving corticotrophin for infantile spasms and symmetrical hypsarrhythmia. The girl developed infantile spasms and symmetrical hypsarrhythmia for which she started receiving corticotrophin [adrenocorticotrophic hormone; route and dosage not stated]. Subsequently, she developed intracranial hypertension revealing left hemisphere bacterial abscess, which was attributed to corticotrophin [duration of treatment to reaction onset not stated]. The girl underwent surgery and unspecified antibiotic treatment following which her underlying spasms recurred. She had epileptic spasms. At the age of 2 years, she received vigabatrin which controlled her spasms. At the age of 6 years, her spasms recurred. She received carbamazepine and topiramate, which were inefficient. Later, her spasms were controlled with vigabatrin [outcome not stated]. Kharytonov V, et al. Are Epileptic Spasms a Seizure Type for the Insular Region?. Neuropediatrics 51: 295-297, No. 4, Aug 2020.
