Hypercalcaemia in an infant (first report for corticotropin): case report An 11-month-old infant [sex not stated] with infantile spasms was initiated on corticotropin [dosage not stated], and this was supplemented with calcium for 7 weeks. The calcium was subsequently continued, and prednisone 3mg twice daily was started. Five days later, the infant developed hypercalcaemia (calcium level 13.8 mg/dL); there was also nausea, vomiting and anorexia. The dose of prednisone was increased to 12mg twice daily, with a 4-week tapering planned. Eight days after ceasing prednisone, hypercalcaemia developed again (calcium level 12.3 mg/dL).
