Preface

It is now more than 10 years ago that the Stanford d.school was officially founded. It did not need much persuasion for me to engage in this unique endeavor, as I was instantly electrified by David Kelly’s vision of a hub for innovators on Stanford campus where students and faculty from all departments come together. Looking back, thousands of students with diverse backgrounds at Stanford as well as at the d. school’s sister institute at HPI Potsdam have learned and experienced how to tackle wicked problems and complex challenges to come up with innovative, humancentered solutions. Ever since I came into contact with design thinking, I have been convinced of its innovative power.
