Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory condition with an estimated prevalence of 3–4% in the US population. It is a systemic disease with many known serious comorbidities including psoriatic arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. In addition, psoriasis is associated with depression, anxiety, and self-consciousness, which causes patients to limit social interactions and prevents them from forming close, intimate relationships with others.
