FOREWORD This volume contains lecture notes given at postgraduate schoml and conference on Functional Analysis held from November 3 to November 17, 1985, at the Inter-University Center of Postgraduate Studies, Dubrovnik, Yugoslavia. The lectures and communications were devoted to several parts of functional analysis but centered mainly on functional-analytic aspects of probability theory and operator theory on Hilbert and Banach spaces. There were six series of lectures: 1.
Subspaces and operators in Krein spaces, characteristic
functions and related topics, given by A.Dijksma (Unlversity of Groningen), H.Langer (Technische Universitat Dresden) and H.S.V. de Snoo (University of Groningen)j 2. Quadratic and sesquilinear forms, given by S.Kurepa (University of Zagreb) and J.Vukman (University of Maribor); 3. Measure-theoretical topics in probability; the general marginal problem, given by
(Aarhus Universitet)j
4. Markov processes and potential theory, given by Z.R.PopStojanovic and Murali Rao (University of Florida, Gainesville); 5. Unitary representations of the groups
GL(n), given by
H.Kraljevic and M.Tadic (University of Zagreb); 6. On representations of the Heisenberg groups, given by M.Duflo (Universite Paris VII). This volume contains the somewhat enlarged lecture notes of the first four series of lectures. Besides these the volume contains three papers connected with some one-hour lecture
