Phlebitis: case report A boy [exact age at the time of reaction onset not stated] developed phlebitis during treatment with ganciclovir for congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. The patient was hospitalised into the special care baby unit of a hospital in Nigeria shortly after being delivered via caesarian delivery. He was found to have cholestatic jaundice on the third day of life. His serum bilirubin continued to rise all through the first month of life. Thereafter, he was diagnosed with congenital CMV infection. He was then treated with IV ganciclovir for 3 weeks [dosage not stated], which was followed by valganciclovir. However, he frequent IV cannulation were required during the IV therapy due to ganciclovir induced phlebitis [time to reaction onset and outcome not stated]. His liver function parameters consistently improved during and post therapy, and normalised by age of 12 months. Abolurin OO, et al.
