Health Canada advises of health risks with EMPowerplus Health Canada has advised Canadians of a serious risk to health associated with the use of EMPowerplus, a vitamin mineral supplement. According to the agency, it has received nine case reports of serious adverse reactions in patients receiving EMPowerplus, most of which involved worsening of psychiatric symptoms in patients with serious underlying psychiatric disorders, like depression and bipolar disorders. The worsening of psychiatric symptoms could be because of taking EMPowerplus and discontinuing prescription medications or taking both in conjunction, says Health Canada. The agency says that it is concerned about the unauthorised health claims made by the manufacturer of EMPowerplus, Truehope Nutritional Support Ltd, and advice provided by the company’s ‘non-medically qualified staff’ to patients with serious medical conditions to discontinue their prescription medicines. The agency has emphasised on the importance of consulting a qualified medical practitioner for the treatment of serious medical conditions. Health Canada.
