Isotretinoin Various toxicities: 2 case reports In a prospective study of 56 patients, two patients [ages and sexes not stated] were described, who developed significantly worsening mood, blurred vision, sore eyes, polydipsia, polyuria, dry skin, nosebleeds, lethargy or hair thinning while receiving isotretinoin for acne vulgaris. The two patients, who had acne vulgaris, starting receiving oral isotretinoin at a dose of less than 0.5 mg/kg/day (scheduled for a total cumulative dose of 120 mg/kg). Subsequently, both the patients developed significantly worsening moods. Additionally, the patients also experienced associated physical side effects, which included blurred vision, sore eyes, polydipsia, and polyuria (1 patient), and dry skin, nosebleeds, lethargy, and hair thinning (1 patient) [duration of treatments to reactions onsets and outcomes not stated]. Author comment: "Treatment with isotretinoin has been associated with adverse mood changes." "However, we also found that a small minority of patients are susceptible to severe mood deterioration, particularly in conjunction with severe physical side effects." Bray AP, et al.
