Now lead and leadbased alloys are being used for conditioning spent sealed radioactive sources at radioactive waste disposal facilities. INTRODUCTION A wide variety of investigations of the possible use of lead as a matrix to immobilize spent ffiel and high-level radioactive waste show that lead holds much promise as a matrix for radioactive waste disposal l 1,2].
