In the implementation of medical education, it is necessary to focus on the health of the future, the scientific character of education, and priority development. In medical universities today, research activities are often carried out by individual students, which limits the overall potential of graduates. According to the Commission of the President of the Russian Federation № Pr-1286 from 05.07.2017, the Almazov National Medical Research Centre is conducting an experiment to establish the basic medical educational program in General Medicine. This pilot project is not only the first realization of basic professional education by the scientific center, but it also involves a great amount of innovations in the educational process fostering its improvement. In general, the project offers a new approach to medical education, which is based on three key principles. The first principle is forming fundamental knowledge on all basic disciplines in the institutions, which are specialized in advanced research in each discipline. The realization of this principle is possible due to cooperation with leading high schools of Saint-Petersburg in the field of biotechnologies. The second principle is a focus on public health of future, scientific foundations, and forward-looking approach to education, integration of the science, and academic learning. knowledge broadcasting. Such education is likely to be realized only in centers where all up-to-date and unique technologies are concentrated, and scientific research is carried out. The third fundamental principle of education is its traditional orientation in real clinic practice. The innovative training program includes the involvement of researchers in a lecture and practical course, the start of work in scientific laboratories, from the first days of the introduction to work in clinical departments. The results of the student and lecturer surveys showed a high level of motivation and satisfaction with such learning process.
