5G Based Fixed Wireless Access

In Sect 1.3, a brief history of fixed wireless access (FWA) was presented. FWA today implies a relatively high data rate (tens of Mb/s to several Gb/s), two-way wireless connection between fixed user locations and a base station that is connected to a pac

Preface

The Third Generation Partnership Project’s (3GPP’s) Fifth Generation (5G) mobile technology represents a significant advance in capability and applicability over its 4G predecessor, Long Term Evolution (LTE). That said, it continues on the evolutionary path, in that a number (but not all) of the key technologies that it utilizes are inherited from LTE. The complete 5G specified system encompasses a wide architecture from the core network to the end user. This text addresses primarily the 5G Physical Layer and more specifically those key technologies that facilitate the functioning of the physical layer. The physical layer, as the name implies, embodies those functions related to the physical realization of transmission between a base station and end user equipment. Among the physical layer technologies covered here are digital modulation, channel coding, multi-carrier based multiple-access techniques, multiple antenna techniques including beamforming, and a number of others. Following the presentation of these technologies, a
