Plants, animals, and humans live in association with microbes. Some of these relationships are viewed as beneficial whereas others seem harmful. The ubiquitous existence of microbes provides unique clues about the diversity of their metabolic activities and abilities to evolve in response to environmental stress. They have also been bestowed with a great reservoir of arsenal to infect other organisms including eukaryotes. This infection leads to drastic changes in physiological conditions of the host metabolic machinery resulting in inefficient performance. This condition is termed as disease. A variety of strategies have been tried to counter microbial attack: (1) the vaccines, (2) the antibiotics, and (3) the antipathogens.
