Acute cholangitis: case report A 57-year-old man developed acute cholangitis during treatment with IV ceftriaxone [dosage not stated] for pneumonia. After 5 days, he reported right upper quadrant pain. Blood tests revealed abnormal liver function as well as characteristics of acute inflammation. Abdominal CT scans revealed sludge in his common bile duct and gall bladder, and his common bile duct was dilated. Cholangitis was diagnosed. He was treated with endoscopic biliary drainage [outcome not stated]. Author comment: "We herein report a rare case of acute cholangitis associated with ceftriaxone therapy in an adult."
