This book is dedicated to the children of Ranch Ehrlo Society, and to all the teachers who take on the challenge of disrupting hegemonic practices in education, and to the marginalized and minoritized students whose voices are not being heard and whose needs not being met.

FOREWORD

Decades ago a culturally responsive pedagogical movement emerged with researchers who offered multiple examples of research and experimentation with cultural inclusion in content and pedagogies to illustrate how it made a difference to some culturally marginalized students. This research movement came as a welcome relief for many of these students and for teachers searching for ways to transform conventional exclusive curricula and normalized cognitive assimilation. The movement has continued with much literature experimenting with teaching methods while asking: what curricula and pedagogical change can provide better educational outcomes for historically marginalized youth? To what extent does
