As an academic plastic surgery program director, I felt the responsibility to develop a formal training in peripheral nerve surgery to improve the quality of life of the increasing number of patients suffering from chronic pain. Peripheral nerve surgery is one of the most rapidly evolving branches of plastic surgery. Migraine surgery, targeted muscle reinnervation and the robotic prosthetics are just a few examples of this ever-expanding specialty within plastic surgery. Outcomes from these surgeries are positive with over 70% improvement in pain across the literature, largely overcoming results from other approaches. This book is one of the first practical guides to lead the surgeons through the techniques of peripheral nerve decompressions, selective neurectomies (in case of damaged nerves) and nerve repair, with a very clear, step-by-step approach. The techniques described are minimally invasive which makes them less likely to create complications and more acceptable by patients and other doctors.
