INTERNATIONAL UNION OF MATERIALS RESEARCH SOCIETIES
E-MRS 2002 Spring Meeting to be Held in Strasbourg; Fall Meeting to be Held in Cracow The European Materials Research Society’s 2002 Spring Meeting, chaired by P. Glasow (Germany), F. Priolo (Università Catania, Italy), and M. Stuke (MaxPlank-Institut für Biophysikalische Chemie, Goettingen), will be held at Congress Center in Strasbourg, France, on June 18–21. The Spring Meeting will offer 19 symposia, including the TTP 7 International Conference (Symposium G on thermal plasma processes), organized by the International Plasma Society. It is a continuation of the 6th TPP: Thermal Plasma Processes Conference scheduled in Strasbourg two years ago. The Spring meeting will highlight recent advances in the development, understanding, and modeling of advanced materials; explore interdisciplinary aspects of the research, development, and technology in advanced materials; and offer a forum for the international materials community. A proceedings volume will be published by Elsevier/North Holland. More information can be accessed at Web site wwwemrs.c-strasbourg.fr.
The E-MRS 2002 Fall Meeting will be held at Cracow University of Technology in Poland on September 15–19. It is chaired by P. Siffert, General Secretary of E-MRS, and R. Ciach, chair of the E-MRS Committee for Central Europe. The Fall Meeting is being held in Central Europe for the first time to disseminate research findings, share experiences, and further scientific contact among researchers from Central and Eastern European countries. This meeting will provide opportunities to acquaint delegates from the European Union’s Newly Associated States and Newly Independent States—who may be unfamiliar with the EU’s role in promoting the European research area—with funding opportunities available through the various European Commission initiatives relevant to the Newly Associated States. Seven symposia will be offered at the Fall Meeting: software development for process and materials design; solid solutions of the II–VI compounds—growth, characterization, and applications; light alloys; interfacial effects and novel proper-
ties in nanomaterials; shape-memory materials; low-cost photovoltaic technologies; and polymer blends and composites. The seventh symposium, on solid solutions of the II–VI compounds—growth, characterization, and applications, will be held as a satellite meeting in Zakopane in October. The abstract deadline is May 7, 2002. For more information on the Fall Meeting, contact R. Ciach, chair of the EMRS Committee for Central Europe, 30155 Cracow, Poland, ul. Warszawska 24; tel. 48-12-628-25-22, fax 48-12-628-25 20, email [email protected], and Web site www. pk.edu.pl/fm. The language of both conferences is English. For more information on both meetings, E-MRS General Secretary Paul Siffert can be contacted at BP 20, 67037 Strasbourg Cedex 2, France; tel. 33-3-8810-65-43, fax 33-3-88-10-62-93, e-mail [email protected], and Web site www-emrs.c-strasbourg.fr.
