Early-onset sepsis and early-onset sepsis involving Escherichia coli and Haemophilus influenzae following in utero exposure: 3 case reports In a retrospective study (women underwent delivery in Australia between January 2012 and December 2015), three neonates [sexes and exact ages not stated] were described, who developed early-onset sepsis (EOS), EOS involving Escherichia coli (E.coli) or EOS involving Haemophilus influenzae following in utero exposure of erythromycin. The mothers of the neonates, who had been diagnosed with preterm pre-labour rupture of membranes, received oral erythromycin 250mg four times a day along with unspecified antibacterials [antibiotics]. Following delivery, the newborns were found to have developed EOS (1 patient), EOS involving gram-negative E.coli (1 patient) and EOS involving gram-negative Haemophilus influenzae [1 patient; time to reactions onsets and outcomes not stated].
