Fluconazole Fixed drug eruption: case report A 33-year-old man developed a cutaneous fixed drug eruption while receiving fluconazole for tinea cruris. The man presented with a 1-day history of rash associated with burning and itching. He had taken fluconazole (150mg tablet) at 9pm, which was followed at 2am by itching and rash. He had a history of comparable lesions due to medication taken for a similar dermatological problem [drug not specified]. Cutaneous examination showed well-defined erythematous plaques of varying sizes over his lips, back, chest and lower limbs. The largest lesion was on his chest, and measured 10 × 10cm. A positive result was obtained from a patch test with fluconazole. Fixed drug eruption to fluconazole was diagnosed, and the man was advised to cease using fluconazole. He was initiated on antihistamines and steroids, and had totally recovered in 5 days. Author comment: "In our case, the association was ‘definite’ and ‘certain’ as per the Naranjo scale and WHOUMC causality assessment system, respectively". Pai V, et al.
